RV BUYERS GUIDE The Path to Buying a RV – Your First Home on Wheels
1. ASK YOURSELF Why are you buying an RV? Figuring out first why you want an RV will help tremendously in the buying process
2. WRITE IT DOWN Once you and your family decide why you are buying your RV, write down how you want to use your RV – are you a weekend warrior and want to get away for only a few days? Perhaps you’re a snowbird and travel down south for winters only? Or are you planning to be a full-timer?
3. LEARN Now that you know how you will be using your RV, research and learn about the different categories of RVs such as travel trailers, fifth wheels, class C motorhomes, class A, etc.
4. FILTER Now that you know about the different types, decide if you want to purchase a towable or a motorized – if you decide on towable, now is a good time to learn about your vehicle’s towing capacity
5. PLAN How many people will regularly be staying in the RV? Figuring out how many people will be sleeping in and using the RV will help you decide which floorplan(s) will work best
6. AMENITIES Decide what features you would like to have in your RV, and then separate into 2 lists – list a: your absolute must haves, and list b: things you’d like, but can live without
7. BUDGET Determine your budget – and do your best to stick to it!
8. TYPE So now that you know your budget, what you’re looking for and are knowledgeable on the different categories of RVs, decide what type and floorplan will best suite you and your families’ needs
9. REQUEST Request insurance quotes and, if you are financing, get pre-approved
10. RESEARCH Take the time to do some research to find out what the market value is on the specific RV(s) you’ve narrowed it down to
11. FIND A DEALER Find a dealer that you are comfortable with, just as you would with a realtor when buying a house – this should be a fun experience, so try to find someone who shares in your excitement!
12. SHOP Be sure to take your time walking through the RVs and try your best to get a good feel for what it would be like to actually stay/live in the RV – once you’ve found your perfect match, it’s time to say hello to your new RV!
